Two Is The New One

When I turned one, it was a magical day. I didn't know much about birthdays before that day, but, after it I knew that celebrating a birthday was something I'd be looking forward to each time it happened. Now, before I talk about turning two I wanna say something about how long I had to wait. Who came up with the one year rule? I thought these birthdays were going to happen once a week or maybe (and this was pushing it) once a month. Once a year? You mean to tell me I'm going to have wait a whole year for my third birthday? Who do I talk to about these things? Okay back to my second birthday. The day started off with a huge and wonderful surprise - mama and dada didn't go to work! That right there made the day special. So dada woke up with me and we made pancakes. I did the mixing.

Morning Mixing
After pancakes I bummed around the house for a bit and then dada and I were off to my music class; another great surprise to the day because usually my nanny takes me. Music class was a lot of fun. We sang all the great songs, played with the scarves, shakers, instruments, and danced around. Definitely a treat to be there with dada.

Music Class
And then we were off to this place made just for little kids - The Brooklyn Children's Museum. I had been once before but this time I was able to stay longer and explore the whole place. It's so much fun here because they let you touch and play with just about everything. The first stop was the toddler area. This part opened up before the rest of the museum and it's a good thing because us tiny ones can get pretty antsy without an 11am activity. There was quite a bit to see and touch. I started with the instruments.

Then there was a dress up area with all sorts of silly clothes and hats to wear. Don't mind if I do.

Next, there was a place to play with sand. Now I would have to say I've seen my fair share of sand before but there was something odd about this sand. It was blue!

Blue Sand
After the sand, we were off to one of my favorite areas. The water! They had these blue smocks that kids were wearing to keep them from getting wet. Smock? I don't need no silly smock!

Playing With the Water
I lost the smock battle.

Wearing the Smock
It took some effort on their part but mama and dada were finally able to get me to leave the water and have lunch. Let's see. I had a hot dog, some of mama's tuna sandwich, dada and I shared a chocolate milk, and I finished up eating pretzels with mama. That's some good eating.

Eating Lunch
We saw a turtle at the museum. Why couldn't I touch him?

Oh and then we played in a bus. It was a real bus that somehow they put in the museum. Well, it wasn't the entire bus because they cut it in half which makes the whole thing even more strange than it already is. How do you cut a bus in half? I got to drive the half-bus.

Driving the Bus
There was this grocery store there just for kids. All the shelves had stuff on them just like in the real grocery store and there was even a spot to hand over the money just like mama and dada do. I was stocking up!

Grocery Shopping
Half-way through the museum we stumbled upon a bike. I call it a bike but dada keeps correcting me and calling it a scooter. Scooter. Bike. What's the difference? Both have two wheels, right dada?

Scooter
The pizza parlor was right up my alley. First of all, I love pizza! I was all set to start taking orders.

Answering Phones
Second, they had a soda machine that I could reach. I think you have to draw the line somewhere at putting fake stuff in a museum. What a tease.

Soda
And third, I was able to reach the ice cream bins. Of course they too were fake. Seriously though.

Ice Cream
We wrapped up the day playing with some blocks and magnets. What an amazing place. I sure do look forward to going back again really soon!

Blocks at the Museum
Lucky for me (waiting an entire year for the next one will be a struggle) my birthday lasts the entire day. When we got home from the museum, my friend Charlie came over and we had cupcakes. My first birthday I had cake. Still wonder why we can't have cake every day. But cupcakes, well they're just as good and Charlie's mom made them! Mom, can you please learn? First I had to blow out the candles, all two of them.

Blowing Out the Candles
It didn't take Charlie and me long to get into our cupcakes. So, so good!

Happy Birthday, Noah!

A friend of mine celebrated his third birthday yesterday. His name is Noah and he lives upstairs on the fifth floor. He has a new little sister named Margot. I wonder what it would be like to have a little sister. Hmmm. Anyway, the party was a lot of fun. There was music and it's just like the music class I go to on Wednesdays. We played with shakers,

and scarves.

After the music was over, it was time for the cupcakes!

Cupcake!
Noah's mommy and daddy put out all these cupcakes onto the table and we were allowed to decorate them. So that's something I want to talk about - decorating cupcakes. Dada put some colorful little sprinkles on my plate and said I could use them to decorate my cupcake. Why would I want to do that? I mean if you had your choice between one snack and two, wouldn't you choose two? Right, so you see my point. Why not keep the sprinkles on the side and then when you're done eating the cupcake, move onto the sprinkles? It was a pretty easy decision for me.

Eating Cupcake
After we ate our cupcakes (and sprinkles) Noah's daddy brought out the cake. All the mommies and daddies sang to Noah and then he blew out the candle. I felt so lucky to be sitting next to the birthday boy.

Still The Birthday Boy

Well I didn't have more cake, but, I did have a CUPCAKE! It's like my own little cake. I loved it. My shirt loved it. My pants loved it.

It's still October so I'm still celebrating. Last Saturday, mommy and daddy threw a big party for me. They invited all my friends, some of their friends, and the band! Oh I told you all about this - Music For Aardvarks. Well they came. It was so cool. The singer, Sivan, mentioned my name in almost all the songs and at the end, he sang Happy Birthday to me! I walked around and told all my friends, "Yeah, I'm with the band." So let's see who was here - there was Matan who lives across the courtyard from us, my bestest buddy Jasmine who lives on the other side of Flatbush, her friend Tess, my big buddy Harrison who lives in the same building as Jas, Charlie who is two weeks younger, little baby Mia, pretty Emelia from Manhattan, my East Hampton buddy Jack, sleepy Theo, and lovely Maggie. The whole gang was here! And they were all here to see me. Thanks, to all my friends.

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me. Why not sing it again? It's my world. It's LANDEN'S WORLD!

Birthday Boy

My First Birthday
Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me! And so many more! Monday was my first birthday and boy was it special. I rode on a plane, I saw Grandma and Grandpa Ryan, I ate cake. I ATE CAKE!
Cake - What is it Good For? Now this cake thing, how exactly does it work? Do I get it every birthday? It's really soft and I liked the way it felt on my fingers. Soon after this picture was taken, I had cake all over me. I like cake. Maybe I can have cake on my pretzels, instead of hummus.

So my birthday isn't just one day. This Saturday my mommy and daddy invited some of my friends over, along with a band. The band is called Music for Aardvarks and they sing some really cool music. One of my favorites is the one about being a kid in the city. Actually, it's called City Kid. And then there's the one about the Staten Island Ferry. Actually, it's called Staten Island Ferry. I wish everything was this easy to remember. That's on Saturday and we're going to have lots of fun and food and hopefully more cake!!! Then, two weeks from this Saturday, we're having another party. This one is for all my family. And since everyone will be staying the weekend, it's more of a weekend party. Pretty much the whole month of October we'll be celebrating my birthday. My uncle Thomas also has a birthday in October. My Great Grandpa Giambalvo has a birthday in October. My aunt Christine has a birthday in October. And then, before you know it, it's Halloween and we're walking down Seventh Avenue for the parade! I went last year. I was a three-week old pumpkin.

It started getting cold out. Mommy and daddy have some new clothes for me, plus Tutu Kathleen sent me some great clothes for the colder weather. Oh, and Grandpa Ryan gave me some way cool boots. I can't wait to wear all my new clothes! Well, to tell you the truth, I really couldn't wait. I already tried on my new hat. Whadya think?

Blue Hat
Well one more time for the folks who we're too shy in the beginning . . . Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me. Why not sing it again? It's my world. It's LANDEN'S WORLD!
